Mixed-age classes from September 2017

We’re growing!

Most of our families will be aware that the number of pupils on roll at Blueberry Park continues to rise significantly. Since January 2012, we have over 100 more pupils, something which we are very proud of.

Blueberry Park was originally built as a ‘one and a half form entry’ school (this means 45 pupils in each group instead of ‘one form’, which is 30 pupils in each year group).

We have reached the point where many year groups are full or close to being full, therefore from September, children will be taught in mixed-age classes (just as the school was built for).

From September, we will have a phase structure running through the school. Our Nursery and two Reception classes form one phase (Early Years Foundation Stage), then there is Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6).

Our two Reception classes will have up to 22 or 23 children in them (a total of 45 pupils).

We will have mixed-age classes from Year 1 upwards: there will be three Year 1/Year 2 classes, three Year 3/Year 4 classes and three Year 5/Year 6 classes. There will be no more than 30 pupils in each class.

The classes in each phase will be divided carefully, based on a range of factors so that there is a ‘good mix’ of personalities and learning styles – ensuring the best possible environment and outcomes for all pupils. The staff are already working very hard with the preparations for mixed-age teaching, and we have established excellent links with other schools in the city and across the country who have been teaching mixed-age pupils for many years.

For those of you who were unable to attend the information meetings for parents you will find links to this information by clicking below. If you have any questions or concerns at any time regarding this new organisation please do not hesitate to make an appointment to speak to Mrs Honey.

Please keep visiting this page regularly as we will be adding lots of information regarding what the curriculum will look like for all classes next year. Please feel free to print it off, or ask for copies from the school office.
