Art

At Blueberry Park Primary School, we want all our children to develop a love of Art and Design. Children from Blueberry Park Primary School will leave with confidence in showing their artistic skills, as well as inspiring and equipping them with the knowledge and understanding to experiment, invent and create their own works of Art.  At Blueberry Park Primary School, we are committed to teaching Art and Design to every child from EYFS to Year 6. By learning about different artists and cultures, we are giving all our children a new perspective on our world, encouraging them to understand their own culture and history and as well as that of other countries. Our Art curriculum is bespoke to our school and also meets the requirements of the National Curriculum, and our Art Curriculum has been designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils for the next steps in their education and for their future beyond.

EYFS

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, Art is part of a specific area of learning and development called ‘Expressive Art and Design’. This is where our children have regular opportunities to explore, engage and craft with different media and materials. The children will begin to develop their artistic development and Fine Motor Skills through a variety of creative learning. This will include painting, drawing, exploring colour and texture, joining materials, cutting and manipulating materials such as clay. Through their own personal exploration, the children learn how different materials work and how they can be used to create their own unique outcomes.

KS1

In Key Stage 1, the children are introduced how to use different materials creatively. This will support the children to design and create their own individual products at the end of each unit. The children will use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop their understanding, creativity and imagination. The children will learn about the work of a range of Artists and Designers and begin to make links to their own work. Within each unit, the children will develop a range of Art and Design techniques by using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.

KS2

In Key Stage 2, the children will develop their already learnt techniques. The pupils will enhance their understanding of using control in Art and Design and continue to use a variety of materials with creativity and experimentation. The children will improve their mastery of Art and Design by recording and revisiting prior learning and focusing on their development in drawing, painting and sculpture. In support of their learning, the children will learn about a variety of well-known and local Artists and Architects in History.

Each child will have an Art sketchbook, which will travel through the school and evidence their progression and development as a creative and inspiring artist. Throughout the children’s learning, we aim to give each child feedback and use ongoing formative assessment to ensure that all pupils experience a sense of fulfilment and pride.
