PE
At Blueberry Park, we believe high-quality Physical Education empowers every child to develop the physical skills, confidence and positive attitudes they need to lead active, healthy lives. Our aim is for all pupils to enjoy being physically active, build healthy habits for life and recognise the vital role physical activity plays in supporting mental health and wellbeing. Through inclusive, well-structured lessons, children are taught a wide range of skills, teamwork, resilience and fair play in a supportive and encouraging environment. We want our pupils to become confident movers who are willing to try new activities, challenge themselves and take pride in their progress. Above all, we promote the message that sport is for everyone, and every child deserves the opportunity to succeed and enjoy being active.
PE at Blueberry Park is delivered through a carefully planned curriculum that ensures breadth, progression and inclusion from EYFS right through to Year 6. Every class participates in two physical activity lessons each week delivered by the class teacher or our LSSP specialist coach.
In EYFS, children explore fundamental movement skills, coordination and balance through play, dance, gymnastics and ball skills, which lay the foundations for lifelong physical development.
In Key Stage 1, children develop their fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, balance and agility. They begin to engage in simple team games and start to develop an understanding of cooperation and fair play.
In Key Stage 2, children apply these skills in a wider range of activities and sports including dance, gymnastics, netball, badminton, cricket, athletics and OAA. Children also learn to swim as a vital life skill that builds confidence, safety, and strength in and around water.
Our PE provision is enhanced by:
- A broad range of extra-curricular clubs including multi-skills, football, athletics, netball, dodgeball and dance.
- Specialist coaching and delivery of programmes by LSSP (Liverpool School Sports Partnership) including Balanceability, Skoot School, POWER, Fundamentals, DADDR and Physical Activity Leaders. (PALs)
- Intra and inter-school competitions, supported through our partnership with the LSSP.
- Swimming lessons for all pupils in Year 5 & 6, ensuring confidence and safety in and around water.
