Spanish

At Blueberry Park, our aim is to inspire pupils to think like linguists by developing curiosity, critical thinking, and a broad understanding of the Spanish language and culture. We cultivate confident communicators and develop cultural awareness, enabling pupils to be thoughtful, respectful, and curious about the diverse cultures and world traditions that shape our local community and the wider world. Spanish at Blueberry Park inspires children to become independent language learners, equipped with the foundational skills and confidence to enthusiastically embrace languages. It highlights the role of the language in everyday life and cultural exchange, encouraging pupils to make informed, responsible decisions in a multicultural society.

In Key Stage 2, pupils build and deepen their confidence, understanding and language skills by asking questions, making observations about language use, carrying out research on Spanish-speaking countries, recording and analysing vocabulary, and presenting their findings in language production (speaking and writing), language comprehension (listening and reading) and written forms. Through engaging and interactive lessons, the children will explore Spanish food, celebrations and traditions, arts, music, games and Spanish-speaking countries around the world, encouraging the children to embrace and respect the diverse world around them.

Progress in Spanish is assessed through observation, evaluation of children's work and their contributions to class discussions. An end of unit assessment will also be done from Y3 onwards.
