Reception

Attendance Matters! Our whole school target is 97% so please be in every day.

Welcome to RAS

Miss Smallshaw
Mrs Flack and Mrs Gomes

In Reception we follow the EYFS curriculum (Early Years Foundation Stage) and we provide children with the opportunity to learn through a play-based curriculum. Children are able to explore indoors and outdoors to develop their learning, which is supported by our Reception team.

Spring 1:

As part of our Superhero topic, the children have been enjoying the story 'Juniper Jupiter' where Juniper finds her super sidekick. The children are learning how to write a list and have been discussing what makes someone super, and what they look for in a friend.

The children will be continuing to work hard in their Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics lessons this half-term. Lots of the children have moved to a different phonics group where they will be learning new letter sounds, special friends, green words and red words (tricky words). The children are encouraged to read with fluency by using 'Fred in their head'.

In Maths, the children will be learning all about numbers up to 20, subitising, shape, space and measure, and comparing numbers to 5; recognising the number which is one more and one less.

Here is a link to the National Oak Academy where you can access additional learning to support your child at home.

Attendance and Punctuality

We expect all of our children to have excellent attendance, aiming for 100% every week. School starts at 8:45am (Calm start) and then registration is at 9am. School finishes at 3:15pm. In order to keep everyone safe, please stand back from the doors at drop off and pick-up times. If you would like to speak about anything, please make an appointment.

Reading

We encourage children to read as much as they can independently, with an adult and as a class. All children should have a school reading book (which is based on their RWI level) and a reading for pleasure book to start with which are to be read together with an adult. Reading books will go out on a Friday and are to be returned on a Wednesday morning to school. All of our homework will be posted on Class Dojo each week so you can support your child at home with their learning.

PE

PE is on a Wednesday. Children should come to school in their PE kits these days.

Homework

Homework will be sent out every Friday and is to be returned before the following Wednesday. All of our homework will be posted on Class Dojo each week so you can support your child at home with their learning.
