What is LCQM
This year we are working towards the ‘Liverpool Counts Quality Mark’ (LCQM). We would like everybody to get on board and be as involved as they can be in raising the profile of Maths in our school. This includes children, parents, carers, governors, teachers, TA’s, school business manager, admin staff, site manager, kitchen staff, midday supervisors and visitors to our school.
The quality mark aims to promote a positive attitude to maths and numeracy as an essential life skill. It has been set up by Liverpool learning partnership alongside School Improvement Liverpool.
'The aim of the Quality mark is to tackle the negative attitudes in society towards numeracy and mathematics. We want to promote a culture where people understand the impact good numeracy skills and mathematics qualifications can have on the social, health and employment aspects of their lives. We also aim to support adults in schools to encourage pupils to make connections in their lessons to real life contexts and with other areas of their school experiences.'

Three things we aim to do is;
Encourage everybody to have a Positive Attitude to Maths. Let’s forget about the… ‘I can’t’ or ‘I hate attitude’ and focus on…’with support I can’, ‘with practice I will!’
Point out the maths in everyday life. Look at arrays in supermarkets, weigh ingredients for meals and cakes, pay for shopping and look at receipts, work out time tables for buses and trains.
Praise your child. Effort is key. Always remind your child how well they are doing and that it is okay to make mistakes.
Please tweet photographs (@Blueberryparkuk) of real life maths you are enjoying with your child adding in #LCQM in your comments.
