Welcome to 1KW!

Year 1 have made a wonderful start and we have been delighted and proud to welcome all of the children to year 1 this school year. It has been so lovely to see the children's beaming smiles each day, alongside there eagerness to learn. As a class we are a happy, caring, creative, imaginative and always try our best in all of our learning. We cannot wait to see you all grow and blossom throughout the year.

 As we are focusing on developing independence and sense of responsibility, we encourage our children to look after their own belongings. To avoid items being lost, please ensure that all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name. Please bring a coat to school everyday and in colder weather, a hat and gloves.

Reading

We encourage the children to read as much as they can independently, with an adult and as a class. Please listen to your child read every day, we request that you sign and date the yellow reading record every time you read at home with your child. You can also let us know if they found anything particularly difficult and could use a little more practise as well as praising how well your child has read. Books and folders need to be returned to school every day, we change books on a Friday. Your child will receive additional books or ditty sheets linked to their Read Write Inc phonics group. We also enclose a reading for pleasure storybook for you to enjoy with your child.

Attendance and Punctuality 

In Blueberry Park, we expect all of our children to have excellent attendance, aiming for 100% each week. This is to ensure that the children are able to access the whole of the primary curriculum and become more confident throughout their learning. Being in the line for 5 to 9 will ensure the pupils are punctual and will not miss out on any of there learning within year 1.

PE

We have our PE lessons every Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure children come to school wearing their PE tops and shorts under tracksuit bottoms, PE hoodie or their school jumper, and trainers. Please make sure that all of these items are labelled.

Homework
Your child’s homework tasks will be given out every Friday. These homework tasks include Maths, spellings and handwriting. Log in details for NumBots have been sent home to every child, please support your child to access NumBots as often as possible. We are able to introduce a competitive element as we can view the leader board in school.
