Safeguarding

At Blueberry Park Primary School we strongly believe that:

'Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.’ (Keeping Children Safe in Education).

The safety and well-being of children is our priority at Blueberry Park. We want to ensure that our children grow up in a safe, nurturing environment where their well-being is protected. By safeguarding them, we help prevent harm, abuse, and neglect, allowing them to feel secure and supported in their learning. This also enables our children to thrive both academically and emotionally, building the foundation for their future success and happiness.  We work hard to create a safe school where every child feels valued and has the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and protective setting.

As a school, we always act in the best interests of the child. We listen carefully to children’s views and take their wishes and feelings seriously.

We are committed to safeguarding children and promoting their wellbeing by working closely with families and a range of partner agencies. This includes providing early help where needed and ensuring the right support is in place to help children thrive.

All staff and volunteers receive thorough safeguarding training, both when they join the school and on an ongoing basis, so they can recognise concerns and act quickly. We follow safer recruitment practices and have clear safeguarding policies, procedures and a code of conduct that promote a culture of vigilance and professional challenge.

Our safeguarding arrangements are regularly reviewed and quality assured by school leaders and governors, including actions from local authority audits and learning from serious case reviews.

We provide a curriculum that teaches children how to manage risk, stay safe and build healthy relationships. Most importantly, we create a listening culture where children know who they can talk to if they are worried or need help.

Operation Encompass

At Blueberry Park Primary School, we work closely with Operation Encompass to help support children who may be affected by domestic abuse. Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and the police, which ensures that when the police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child, the school is informed at the start of the next school day. This information is shared sensitively and confidentially with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, so that appropriate support can be offered to the child. Our aim is to help children feel safe, understood and supported in school, while working with families and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes.
