Online Safety

At Blueberry Park Primary School, safeguarding our children is a shared responsibility between school and home. As the digital world continues to develop, ensuring children use the internet safely and responsibly is increasingly important. We actively encourage families to support and reinforce online safety messages at home alongside the work we do in school.

Online safety is embedded across our curriculum, particularly within Computing and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). We recognise that the internet, social media and online gaming play an important role in children’s lives and offer many educational and social benefits. At the same time, we are mindful of the potential risks that online activity can present.

We promote responsible and respectful online behaviour and teach children how to keep themselves safe when using digital technologies. A key part of this approach is encouraging open and honest conversations about online activity. We ask parents and carers to continue these discussions at home by talking regularly with their children about the websites they use, the games they play and their online experiences.

How parents and carers can help

  • Talk regularly with your child about their online activity, including the websites they visit, the games they play and who they communicate with online.

  • Set clear expectations and boundaries around screen time and internet use, appropriate to your child’s age and maturity.

  • Use parental controls and privacy settings on devices, apps and platforms to help manage what your child can access.

  • Encourage respectful behaviour online, reminding children that the same rules for kindness and respect apply online as they do face to face.

  • Know where to find support, such as reporting concerns to school or using trusted online safety websites for advice and guidance.

  • Reassure your child that they can talk to you or a trusted adult if something online makes them feel worried, uncomfortable or unsafe.
