Welcome to Y1RS

Miss Sylvester, Mrs Block and Miss Antley

Welcome back to Y1RS, we hope you had a lovely Easter break and are excited to get back into school.

We are so proud of all the progress Y1 has made and can't wait to leap into this term. We will be learning about Judaism, Climate and reading and writing about The Secret of Black Rock. In Maths we are looking at numbers from fifty to one hundred and beyond, working on our addition and subtraction and delving into pounds and pence.

As the weather gets hotter please make sure children have names in their jumpers and cardigans and a labelled water bottle.

To avoid any lost learning it is important to ensure we have good attendance. Each day new learning takes place which means everyday is vital in ensuring children are achieving their full academic potential. If you need any adivce or support with this please contact school.

Please see below for some key information.

Reading

We encourage the children to read as much as they can independently, with an adult and as a class. Please listen to your child read every day, we request that you sign and date the yellow reading record every time you read at home with your child. You can also let us know if they found anything particularly difficult and could use a little more practise as well as praising how well your child has read. Books and folders need to be returned to school every day, we change books on a Friday. Your child will receive additional books or ditty sheets linked to their Read Write Inc phonics group. We also enclose a reading for pleasure storybook for you to enjoy with your child.

PE

We have our PE lessons every Monday and Friday. Please ensure children come to school wearing their PE tops and shorts under tracksuit bottoms, PE hoodie or their school jumper, and trainers. Please make sure that all of these items are labelled.

Homework
Your child’s homework tasks will be given out every Friday. These homework tasks include Maths, reading and handwriting. Please ensure that the homework folder comes into school on Friday otherwise the children will not recieve their new book.
