History

What makes a good History student at Blueberry Park?

A good historian is able to ask perceptive questions, reflect critically, change viewpoints and develop their own judgements based on historical evidence. They should have a strong knowledge and understanding of chronology, knowing where their unit of study fits on a timeline and how it relates to other eras. Children develop the ability to research and question the reliability of sources and gain an understanding of causes and significance.

About History

At Blueberry Park our History education aims to motivate children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the past and develop understanding of local, British and world history.

There is an emphasis on chronology and chronological understanding, allowing pupils to understand the time between units and where their current unit of study fits on a timeline. We aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past through an enquiry skills-based approach. In lessons, children are encouraged to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

We believe that History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, while relating it to their own lives and experiences.
